The Architectural Review Emap

Whilst working as art director for The Architectural Review (AR), Lindgren conceived a full redesign of the magazine together with Violetta Boxill. The work entailed print, web, exhibitions and sub-brands.

We started our redesign journey by looking back through ARs rich archive, dating back to 1896. We chose to re-draw one of the original mastheads from the 1970s, which had a warmth and personality to it unusual for an architecture magazine. We embraced the past but introduced a contemporary slant, by rendering the letterforms as a merged unit, which would have been impossible in the days of metal type. Typographically we used two fonts throughout and played with various patterns and colours to introduce an eclectic personality to the magazine.
