Form Svensk Form

Together with new Editor-in-chief, Gustaf Kjellin, Riitta was commissioned to redesign the Swedish magazine Form, in close collaboration with Svensk Form (the Swedish Society of Crafts and Design).

The rethinking of Form magazine, in terms of both design and editorial direction, began with the question: what can a magazine add to today's design scene in Sweden, the Nordic region and beyond? What is the magazine's role and what needs are there that others are failing to deliver? After many conversations, surveys, tests and discussions, a clear gap in the market began to crystallise: an in-depth, long-read, bilingual (Swedish/English) magazine about design with a Nordic perspective.

The first thing the reader will notice is the change to a more compact format, making our intentions clear; the magazine should be easy to handle and read, wherever you are. The completely new logo reflects the brand's diverse perspective, history and ambition, while the interior redesign showcases long texts with an unfussy, reader-friendly layout. Images support the text — rather than vice versa — helping the reader understand, navigate and analyse the contemporary design landscape. Playful typographic opening spreads create drama and pacing, and a bold use of colour helps distinguish the two languages.
